Shankar Bennur

Results will be announced by noon

Verification to be done thrice before announcement is made

MYSORE: As many as 390 officers, including those from the Central and State services, will be involved in the counting of votes of the seven constituencies in Mandya district on May 25.

The results of each constituency would be subjected to three rounds of verification before they are announced. The counting staff were provided training here on Sunday. The counting of votes of the Maddur, Malavalli and Melukote constituencies will take place at the Government Women’s College while those of Mandya, Srirangapatna, K.R. Pet and Nagamangala constituencies will be done at the Government Boy’s College near the Inspection Bungalow. The counting centres will have three-tier security cover.

As many as 15 tables will be provided for counting of votes of each constituency.

“Once the strong room where the electronic voting machines are kept is opened, the officers in charge of the constituencies will begin counting of the first 15 polling booths. Likewise, the counting of votes for each constituency will be carried with 15 booths in each round,” Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Manjunath Prasad said.

“The process of counting of votes will commence at 4 a.m. Each table will have one counting supervisor and one counting assistant. The results compiled by them will be verified by the additional counting supervisors. These results can be crosschecked by the candidates’ polling agents,” Mr. Prasad said.

The counting staff for each constituency and the tables allotted to them will be decided on the day of counting at 5 a.m. The Deputy Commissioner and the central observers for the seven constituencies will decide the officers, and their names will be put up on the notice board at the Government Boy’s College at 5:30 a.m. The counting officers will have to report to the centres by 6:30 a.m. The counting process will begin at 8 a.m. Each candidate can appoint his or her counting agent for each table. “The agents are supposed to report at 7 a.m. as identity cards with details of the table will be issued to them,” Mr. Prasad said. Mobile phones had been strictly barred inside the counting centres. By noon, the results of all the segments would be announced, he said.
