Oustees’ land acquired at Rs. 18,000 per acre for Jadcherla SEZ ‘Same land sold to firms at the rate of Rs. 7 to 17 lakh’ MAHABUBNAGAR: The oustees of Polepally village who are in the election fray in Jadcherla Assembly segment have started their election campaign en masse on Saturday. With begging bowels in their hands, they begged for votes as well as money to meet the expenditure of the election campaign. They kicked off their campaign from Koverammapet village cattle salebazar. Over 341 families residing in Polepally, Gundlagadda tanda and Mudireddy village under Jadcherla Assembly segment have lost their agriculture lands in an extent of 969 acres in the land acquisition process by the State Government for setting up a growth centre (Special Economic Zone). Government paid them compensation at the rate of Rs.18,000 per acre according to the market rate in 2003. But the APIIC which acted as mediator sold the same land to industrial firms that wanted to set up their units in the Jadcherla SEZ, at the rate of Rs. 7 lakh to Rs. 17 lakh. Real estate brokerThis became the bone of contention between government and displaced farmers. The farmers are demanding that their land should be either given back or pay compensation at the rate that was sold to the industrial firms. They are alleging that the government acted as real estate broker by acquiring land at a cheaper rate and selling it to firms at exorbitant rates. To attract the attention of State and Central Government towards their demands 13 displaced persons have entered into Jadcherla byelections fray on behalf of Polepally Anti-SEZ United Forum (PASUF) and two oustees on behalf of Bharatiya Kisan Morcha (BKS) an outfit of Rastriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS).
