Trained professional: MAA TV newsreader Pratibha. If Telugu channels on entertainment front had an influx of fresh talent, the same appears to have failed in the happening news channels. Though news presentation on the electronic media has evolved a lot since the days of Doordarshan Shanti Swarup, it has not really peaked. The viewers are left with a certain vacuum. This is more pronounced in the light of the swelling number of dedica ted news channels in last couple of years with more in the pipeline. Few among the newer breed do keep the viewers engrossed with their style of presentation and ease of the language. But with others, absence of required training and preparation for the camera and also, at times, lack of comprehension of the developments they report to the viewers turn glaring. Some of them lack ease in facing the camera while some fail in maintaining the tone and others make their inadequacies with the language too obvious to ignore. The channels have either one or two good presenters who hold the anchor and others end up filling the rest. This only shows the over-reliance of the channels on their star performers while simultaneously reflecting the failure of others in equipping them rightly. Each of the channels has tried to come out with their own code from dress to presentation, but for one or two, others have failed in developing a talent pool of their own.
Some of the seniors such as Pragati (Maa TV) and Kalyani (TV5) continue to maintain their positions in the top slot with their well-trained presentation and style. But Telugu channels do require more such news presenters. T.LALITH SINGH
