‘Regularise supervisors of ICDS’

CITU conference focuses on problems of contract workers

NALGONDA: The 11th triennial State conference of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has demanded that the government regularise contract supervisors working in Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme in the State without further delay.

The delegates unanimously passed a resolution with this effect to benefit supervisors and anganwadi workers across the State, the newly elected general secretary of the CITU R. Sudha Bhaskar told reporters at the end of the conference here on Sunday.

“As many as 1.4 lakh anganwadi workers have been serving 350 projects. All of them must be treated as government employees after institutionalising the ICDS,” he said.

Charging the government with failing to keep its promise of a salary hike for them and solving the problems of the work force, he declared that a week-long agitation would be taken up in the second week of June under the banner of ‘Prajaa Samghaala Aikya Vedika’ at all mandal headquarters.

Resolution

The conference also passed a resolution asking the government to come out with a comprehensive law for the welfare of the workforce in the unorganised sector.

“There are about one crore workers toiling in the unorganised sector. A law is the need of the hour to give them employment guarantee and social security,” the resolution observed.

It emphasised the need to provide them the Provident Fund (PF) with the government contribution.

New CITU chief

Meanwhile, S. Veeraiah has been unanimously elected president of CITU State unit.

He would replace R. Sudha Bhaskar, who has been made the general secretary. Mr. Veeraiah, a fierce speaker, served the organisation till date as the general secretary.

The conference delegates unanimously elected 26 officer-bearers, 219 council members and 87 State committee members.
