MADURAI: The All India Forward Bloc has relieved actor-turned-politician M. Karthik of the party post with effect from Saturday. A seven-member ad hoc committee has been formed to look after the party affairs and facilitate party elections.

Talking to reporters here on Sunday, party’s general secretary Debabrata Biswas said Mr. Karthik had failed as the party’s State unit president and secretary to unite various factions and strengthen the party. “The party had failed to address people’s issues and no public movement was organised. It even failed to officially organise any function during the Guru pooja, on the occasion of Muthuramalinga Thevar’s birth centenary celebration,” he said.

A four-member high-power committee has been formed to go through the party’s performance under the leadership of Mr. Karthik. Its report would be discussed and appropriate action would be taken at the Central Secretariat meeting to be held at Kolkata on May 27 and 28, Mr. Biswas said.

The party had issued a notice seeking explanation from Mr. Karthik on April 25 for failing to form a working committee in the State and not attending central committee meetings. He was also accused of sidelining sincere party activists.
