Government has failed on price front: Vijayakant

Special Correspondent

Vijayakant

CHENNAI: Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam leader Vijayakant on Sunday accused the DMK government of failing on many counts including on the price front and power generation.

Addressing people from wards 50 and 53 who joined his party, Mr. Vijayakant said Food Minister E.V. Velu’s meeting with hotel owners to control the price would not serve any purpose except for reducing the size of the food items sold in the hotels. “In the name of reducing the prices they will only reduce the quantity. You will end up eating more and paying more,” he said.

According to him, the government’s failure to provide employment opportunities had resulted in exodus of Tamil youth to West Asian countries in search of job. He also faulted the government for “failing to provide uniform education to all sections of the society.”

In fact both the ruling and the opposition came in for criticism.

“As governments are changing in every five years, political parties are interested only in protecting their interests,” he alleged.

The only ideology of the parties, he said, was “to give up their principles for the sake of electoral gains once in five years.”

Calling upon the people to revolt against the shortcomings of the government, Mr Vijayakant said “if people remain silent they cannot turn the attention of the rulers to their problems.”
