College teachers thank Karunanidhi

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Join Action Council of College Teachers (JAC) thanked Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for referring the bills related to the conversion of government and aided colleges into universities to the Select Committee of the Assembly, but threatened to resume direct action programmes including the boycott of valuation work if the government went ahead with its proposal of promulgating the ordinance against the wishes of the MLAs and the teachers.

“The JAC also wants the government to send the proposed ordinance to the Select Committee, taking into consideration the feelings expressed by the MLAs and the teachers,” said JAC convener U. Sundararajan in a statement.

Thanking all the political parties and MLAs for supporting his organisation’s demand, Dr. Sundararajan said the JAC had temporarily suspended the boycott of valuation work from May 18 in all the universities.
