4 injured as fire razes shops
CHENGAM: Four persons including a policeman were injured and property worth Rs.10 lakh destroyed as 10 shops near the Chengam Old Bus Stand were destroyed in a fire on Sunday.
The injured have been admitted to the Chengam Government Hospital. Their condition was stable.
The fire broke out in one of the banana ‘mandis’ and spread to nine nearby shops as one of the five cylinders kept there exploded. The police said that the cylinders had been kept there to be sold in the black market. Fire personnel from Tiruvannamalai and Chengam put down the blaze.— Staff Reporter
