Security team arrives in Pakistan

Karachi: Two security experts of British origin have arrived in Karachi with International Cricket Council (ICC) officials to carry out a comprehensive study of the security arrangements for this year’s Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

The two security experts — James Wingston and Kaene Styne — didn’t speak to the media on their arrival at the airport on Sunday morning.

Later, two ICC officials also flew into Karachi in the afternoon with the delegation which will visit three venues in the city and also meet with top government and security officials including Rehman Malik, the advisor on interior to the Prime Minister.

Pakistan has been given hosting rights of the mega event for the first time but the final confirmation of whether the tournament would be held from September 11 in Pakistan will depend on the report of the security experts.

The Chief Executives of all the member countries and Executive Board of the ICC will take a decision on the tournament after going through the security report. — PTI
