Titles for Rajkumar, Amirthavalli

Chennai: N. Rajkumar (Velammal MHSS) and G. Amirthavalli (JGVVS) won the men’s and women’s categories respectively in the Chennai district under-25 chess championship, organised by the T. Nagar Chess Academy, here on Sunday.

S. Venkat Kumar, Sr.Vice-President, M/s. Reliance BPO, Chennai, gave away the prizes.

The top five in the men’s section and the top three in the women’s section will represent Chennai District in the TN State under-25 chess championship to be conducted by the Sports Promotion Foundation at Jawahar Vidyalaya from May 24 to 28.

Important results (seventh round): Men: Rajkumar (6) drew with P. Lokesh (5.5); G. Akash (6) bt Harshvardhan (5); J. Arun (Velammal) 5 bt M.P. Vijay (Vetri Vikas) 4; S. Aravind (Chettinad Vidyashram) 4.5 drew with Anand Sivasankar (ECC) 4.5; Sai Manivannan (Natl. Public) 4 lost to Asamathullah (Shakthi CA) 5; P. Ganesh (JRM) 4 lost to Jitendriyavel (Velammal) 5.

Women (fifth round): Amirthavalli 4.5 bt Malavika Vishwanath 2; Shabnashree (Velammal) 2 lost to J.G. Nivedhitha 4.5; G.K. Monnisha (Amritha Vidyalayam) 4 bt G. Uma Bharathy (JGVV) 1; V. Niranjiny (Sindhi Model) 2 lost to Michelle Catharina (Good Shepherd) 3.
