MUMBAI: M.S. Thejkumar claimed his second GM norm by beating GM Abhijit Kunte while top seed Michal Krasenkow made sure of the title with a round to go in the Mayor’s Cup International Open chess tournament here on Sunday. Thejkumar, who made his maiden GM norm in the Commonwealth championship in New Delhi last December, has eight points from 10 rounds. Krasenkow has nine points after defeating Bangladesh’s Abdulla Al-Rakib. The results (Indians unless stated): 10th round: Michal Krasenkow (Pol, 9) bt Abdulla Al-Rakib (Ban, 7.5); M.S. Thejkumar (8) bt Abhijit Kunte (8); Ziaur Rahman (Ban, 8) drew with Anton Filipov (Uzb, 8); Saidali Iuldachev (Uzb, 8) bt Reefat Bin Sattar (7.5); Arghyadip Das (7) lost to K. Humpy (8); Barlomiej Macieja (Pol, 7.5) drew with Tejas Bakre (7.5); Saptarshi Roy (7.5) drew with Merab Gagunashvili (Geo, 7.5); Anup Deshmukh (8) bt R.R. Laxman (7); S. Arun Prasad (7.5) drew with S. Satyapragyan (7.5); Shukhrat Safin (Uzb, 6.5) lost to Ram S. Krishnan (8).
