The machines vending platform tickets at the Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station have been defunct for several weeks. But no separate counter has been opened to issue the tickets. Until some time ago, the first ticket counter had been set apart for it and selling copies of the railway timetable. Now, those who come to buy these tickets stand in long queues with those waiting to take journey tickets. On May 4, I could not buy a platform ticket in spite of my best efforts and the Railway Protection Force booked me. It is objectionable that the vending machines have not been made functional and no exclusive counter is being run. Mohith S. Thiruvananthapuram Give more time to pay phone billAfter issuing the tariff bills, the Kerala State Electricity Board gives its consumers a week’s time to make the payment. The Kerala Water Authority allows a month and a half for payment. But Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) gives just three or four days. I received the phone bill on April 22 evening. The last date for payment without surcharge for delay was April 25. Most consumers will find it difficult to make the payment at such a short notice. I request the BSNL authorities to allow at least a week’s time for payment. Subscribers should be allowed to pay the bill in the first week of the month rather than in the last week. V.G. Balakrishnan Thiruvananthapuram
