Restricted power supply to continue today also

Staff Reporter

The most affected are residents of eastern parts of the city

Bangalore: Several parts of the city had to make do with either intermittent power supply or no power at all during the weekend and indications are the situation will continue till Monday afternoon. The worst affected are the residents of eastern parts of the city and commercial establishments in the central business district.

Trouble began when one of the four main power supply lines between Hoody and HAL distribution centre snapped on Saturday, affecting power supply in the eastern parts of the city.

Though officials of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. (KPTCL) took up repair works immediately, the line could not be repaired.

“The 66 kV line was affected. While we were trying to repair the line on Sunday, another part of the line got cut, adding to our difficulty. We tried to restore supply, but had to discontinue work after 6 p.m., as we did not want to take a risk,” said a senior KPTCL official. The official said that the KPTCL would take up the work again on Monday at 10 a.m.

“We are confident of completing the work by 1 p.m.,” he said.

He also added that though certain areas had restricted supply, the situation was far better than it was in the evening on Saturday.

“The question of overload did not arise, as most commercial establishments and industries were closed on Sunday. Normal power supply will be restored by Monday afternoon,” he added.
