NEW DELHI: An eight-year-old girl was killed and seven people injured in incidents of wall and roof collapse reported from different parts of the city during the rain and thunder squall on Saturday night. Soni and her siblings Shabnam, Shivam and Vijender were asleep when a newly-constructed wall on the first floor of an adjoining house, owned by Rakesh Kumar, fell on the roof of their house at Uttam Nagar. A portion of the roof caved in on them. The four were rushed to a nearby hospital where Soni was declared dead on arrival. The others were discharged on Sunday morning. The police have registered a case of negligence and arrested Rakesh. In another incident reported from New Usmanpur, 35-year-old Harish, his wife Suman (30) and their two children were injured when the roof of their house collapsed as lightening struck around midnight. The injured were admitted to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital. While Harish and the children were discharged on Sunday morning, Suman has been kept under observation as she has sustained head injuries. The strong winds and rain over the weekend was caused by a cyclonic circulation over western Rajasthan and adjoining areas.
