VANIYAMBADI: Burglars broke open a house and decamped with 20-sovereign jewels worth Rs.2 lakh from a house at Iqbal Road near Vaniyambadi on Sunday.

Police said that Afroz Ahmed, one of the residents of Vaniyambadi residing at Iqbal Road, had locked his house and had gone along with his family members to Kodaikanal on May 17.

Burglars broke open the entrance to the first floor and gained entry into the house. They then broke open a bureau and decamped with 20 sovereign jewellery.

Based on the complaint by Afroz Ahmed who returned to Vaniyambadi on Sunday night, the Vaniyambadi Sub Division Deputy Superintendent of Police M.Suresh Kumar conducted an inquiry. Fingerprint experts took the thumb impressions. However, the whereabouts of the accused was not known.
