“Spread message of micro finance among villagers”

Staff Reporter

PUDUCHERRY: Chief General Manager of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) A. Ramanathan stressed the need for aggressive campaign by banks to spread the message of mirco finance in the country.

Delivering his key-note address at a function to mark the launch of “Right Choice Micro Finance Limited,” he said “micro finance is just like an insurance” and it needs to be promoted especially among the rural population.

Access to banking services

Citing a recent study by National Sample Survey Organisation, he said 50 per cent of the people residing in rural areas did not have formal access to banking services.

If all-round development of the county had to take place, these segments of the population have to be provided access to banking services, Mr. Ramanathan said.
