Extinct: Visitors look at the replica of dodo at the exhibition on biodiversity at Regional Science Centre in Tirupati. TIRUPATI: The travelling exhibition on biodiversity on display at the Regional Science Centre, Tirupati, has turned out to be a major attraction for visitors and students. The inquisitive young and the relatively-indifferent elders are equally lured to the centre to have a glance of the expo. The exhibition has 37 panels revolving around the evolution of earth and life on the planet. The gallery starts with exhibits on formation of stars from the universe, formation of planets including the earth, evolution and advancement of life from single cell organisms in oceans to other diverse forms and so on. The series starts with marine life in the initial stages to vertebrates, invertebrates and birds up to mammals. There are also exhibits on the different types of evolution, ecological cycles and biomes (climatic conditions congenial for an animal for its sustenance). The replica of dodo, a flightless bird endemic to Mauritius, stands out as a major attraction. The bird vanished without a trace from the earth owing to man’s cruel instincts in killing birds for entertainment. Besides, there is a computer-based quiz contest for the students. The expo will close on June 15. Visitors and school managements can contact 0877-228 6202 for details and registration.
