Applications invited

PUDUCHERRY: The State National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell has invited applications from persons in the age group of 13 to 35 years for the Central government’s annual awards.

The cell, in a release, said the Centre was presenting awards to encourage young persons and youth organisations. Both men and women in the above mentioned age group can apply . The award would be presented on the basis of the social activities carried out from April 2007 to March 2008.

The first phase of selection of candidates would be carried out at the district level for Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam. In the next phase, the Puducherry government would select candidates at the State level and forward the applications to the Centre.

After receiving applications from various States, the Union government would select 25 persons for the award. The award consists of cash prize of Rs.20,000 and a gold medal. An organisation carrying out social work would also be selected and awarded Rs.1 lakh.

Filled-in applications should be submitted by June 10, according to the release.

The awards would be given on January 12, 2009, on the occasion of World Youth Day.

Applications would be issued at the Office of the State Liaison Officer State NSS Cell, Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Centenary Educational Complex, Anna Nagar.
