Jayalalithaa visits temple in Badaga village

Udhagamandalam: Former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, who has been staying at the Kodanad Estate near Kotagiri for the past few weeks, took time off on Monday to visit the Halamalai Sri Ranganathar Temple located amidst idyllic surroundings at the Badaga village in Sundatty.

Enquiries made by The Hindu revealed that Ms. Jayalalithaa who had been seeing the temple everyday from the estate had expressed a desire to offer prayers there.

Invitation

With the villagers extending an invitation to her, Ms. Jayalalithaa had gone to the temple. After according her a traditional welcome, the villagers adorned her with a ‘thundu’ which forms an integral part of the attire of Badaga women.

Having paid her obeisance to the presiding deity, she sat under a shamiana for some time to interact with the villagers and witness a Badaga dance.

Responding to a request, she joined the dancers for a couple of minutes.

Ms. Jayalalithaa said that she was immensely satisfied with the visit.

Questions

She declined to answer questions relating to politics or the state of affairs in Tamil Nadu, stating that it was not the proper forum.
