PUDUKOTTAI: Responding to villagers’ demand, Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests S. Regupathy sanctioned a community hall at T. Keezhaiyur village near Kundradarkovil in the district on Saturday. The Union Minister said that the community hall would be constructed at an estimate of Rs.12 lakh. While he would release Rs. 2 lakh from the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme, an equal share would be contributed by the villagers. Another Rs.8 lakh would be sanctioned from the ‘Namakku Namae’ scheme, he said. The Minister was speaking at a function to mark the inaugural of a hostel at an outlay of Rs.31.50 lakh at Kulavaipatti and Killukottai villages in Visalur village panchayat near here. He also declared open buildings including fair-price shop, additional class-rooms for school, and a shopping complex on the occasion. A number of speakers pleaded with the Minister to sanction funds for constructing a community hall in the village. Bus serviceThe Minister also assured that a bus service linking Killukottai and Thanjavur would be introduced within a fortnight. Steps would also be taken to construct a hospital at Killukottai, he said. Mr. Regupathy advised the villagers to exhibit a sense of commitment for successful implementation of the ‘National Employment Guarantee Programme’, without just an eye on the assured wages. “The beneficiaries should bear in mind that all these works go to develop the village by stabilising the ground-water table or providing irrigational facilities.”
