They are able to get welfare measures at their door steps, says Collector Camps generated awareness regarding the welfare schemes and eligibility criteria Nagercoil: The ‘Oru Varam Oru Varuvai Gramam’ (a revenue village per week) scheme, launched by the district administration has come as a boon to the people belonging to the rural areas as they could get the welfare measures at their door steps. Speaking to The Hindu the Collector, B. Jothi Nirmala, said that the district administration has organised the scheme in 11 revenue villages so far and 15,000 people had already been benefited. This proves to be an effectiveway to reach the people and these special camps helped the poor and downtrodden as they need not come to the collectorate and wait for long hours to hand over petitions. Now, they need not worry of how to avail Government welfare measures and these camps generated awareness among the public regarding the schemes and the eligibility criteria to avail it. She also pointed out that the potential beneficiaries who have been left out would be able to get it as their applications were scrutinised immediately by a group of officials. The ground work for collecting petitions from eligible beneficiaries was done by the local revenue officials such as revenue inspectors, village administrative officers and local body members one month ahead of the camp, said the Collector.
