COLOMBO: At least 15 soldiers and 47 LTTE cadres were killed along the Forward Defence Lines (FDLs) in Mannar in the north, said the Defence Ministry on Monday. The Defence Ministry said the casualties were the result of unsuccessful attempts by the LTTE to “halt the Army’s advance on the Mannar front.” A military spokesperson said the LTTE made an attempt to capture the Nadunkandal Army Defence. The fighting lasted for more than an hour leaving 21 LTTE cadres killed and 12 injured. Five soldiers were killed and three injured, he added. The Defence Ministry claimed troops “forced their way into terrorist defences” in the Vavuniya front
