Rohan shocks Surya

BANGALORE: Local boy Rohan Gaonkar knocked out the fifth seed Surya Sirsala of AP 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the first round of the boys’ under-16 singles event in the Century Club AITA Super Series junior tennis championship here on Monday.

Top seed Shabz Khan of Maharashtra, who trains at the KSLTA High Performance Training Centre here, outplayed T.G. Subhas Kaushik 6-0, 6-2, while second-seeded Surya Pawan of AP prevailed over Neeraj Eangovan of Tamil Nadu 7-6, 7-6(5). All other fancied players posted easy wins.

In the under-12 singles, D. Shivsatyvik upset fifth-seeded Rahul Somani of AP 6-0, 7-5.

In the girls’ under-12 section, all the seeded players moved up posting easy victories.
