Tamang misses slot in final

NEW DELHI: Two bad rounds in the end cost Pemba Tamang a place in the final of the 25m rapid fire pistol event in the shooting World Cup in Munich on Monday.

After missing just eight points out of 400 following rounds of 99, 97, 96 and 100, Tamang was pulled down by rounds of 92 and 92. He finished 17th in a field of 57.

Vijay Kumar shot a 577 with rounds of 96, 98, 94, 98, 99 and 92 to take the 15th spot. He was unable to maintain the standard in the 4-second series in both the first and second stages.

In the men’s 50m rifle prone event, Gagan Narang finished 45th with a 593.

The results: 25m Rapid fire pistol: 1. Ralf Schumann (Ger) 790.0 FWR (589); 2. Christian Reitz (Ger) 786.4 (585); 3. Leuris Pupo (Cub) 786.0 (584); 15. Vijay Kumar 577; 17. Pemba Tamang 576;45. Ronak Pandit 556.

50m rifle prone: 1. Sergei Martynov (Blr) 703.3 (599); 2. Neil Stirton (GBR) 703.2 (599); 3. Warren Potent (Aus) 702.3 (597); 45. Gagan Narang 593; 47. Sanjeev Rajput 593.
