BANGALORE: The Karnataka Athletics Association (KAA) will conduct the Boost World Athletics Day meet 2008 for the second successive year at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, here on May 20 and 21. “With the Sunfeast World 10k run scheduled for May 18, we had to postpone this event by a couple of days, which otherwise would have been organised on May 17 and 18,” Satyanarayana, Secretary, KAA, said at a media briefing here on Monday. About 1,200 athletes are expected to participate in five age categories — under-8, 10, 12, 15 and 17. “The list of winners from this event will be sent across to the IAAF before May 30 and a random draw will be held there to select 30 athletes from the list, who will win a trip for the Hercules Meeting in Monaco on June 16,” added Satyanarayana. “While the IAAF has just two categories (13-15 and 16-17) in its agenda, the KAA has added three more categories to give the children more exposure,” he said. Olympian Pramila Aiyappa will inaugurate the meet at 9.30 a.m. on the morrow. — Special Correspondent
