Welcome step

The slashing down of the rental charges by 50 per cent by the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited is a welcome step.

It will arrest erosion of landline subscriber base.

The BSNL is maintaining the present subscriber base because of reluctance on the part of the elders and old-timers for a change.

Now, the question is whether these old-timers can afford to pay the annual rental charges in one lumpsum and avail themselves of reduction benefit by the BSNL.

Hence, the BSNL must allow them to pay the proportional annual rental charges bimonthly as usual along with the bill amount.

It is painful to know that even many educated people have been cheated by multi-level marketing schemes. This should be a lesson to those section of people who are thinking of earning very high returns to their investment and thus becoming rich in short time.

The condition of the bus stand at Eral in Tuticorin district is gradually worsening. Haphazard parking of buses, free movement of other outside vehicles etc., are causing inconvenience to commuters.

It is time chemically ripened mangoes were banned in Kanyakumari district.

Those who consume them develop stomach pain. Officials must act soon.
