HYDERABAD: Finance Minister K. Rosaiah said that the Government will come out with a scheme after the byelections to control prices of essential commodities. At a press conference here on Monday, the Minister said he would not take the risk of announcing the scheme now itself, as the model code of conduct was in force. He said owing to the steps taken by the Centre and the State Government, prices of cement and steel had come down. Following a cut in the import duty on palm oil, the price of edible oil too had tumbled by Rs 10 per kg. “The prices of all other commodities will fall in two/three months, he said. Plan outlayMr Rosaiah castigated Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu for his oft-repeated “blind criticism” that the Congress Government “did nothing” and that he had only “achieved everything” for the State in all sectors. Mr Rosaiah ridiculed Mr Naidu for his stereotyped criticism without proving his points by quoting figures. The Minister said plan outlay of the budget, any time, indicated development. The Rajasekhara Reddy Government had steeply increased the plan outlay for four consecutive years so far, taking it to an all-time high of Rs 43,193 crore for 2008-09. The plan outlay did not form even one-fourth of the total budget during Telugu Desam period. He said economic growth rate of the State touched 10.37 per cent now, which was 0.87 per cent higher than that of the national average (9.5 per cent). Not only agriculture but also industries contributed significantly towards the GSDP.
