THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) has plans to open more Mysore Silk showrooms in Kerala under franchisee arrangement, Chairman and managing director P. Vijayan has said. At a press conference here on Monday, he said the KSIC had identified major cities and towns such as Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Kozhikode and Thrissur for opening showrooms immediately. This Karnataka State public sector institution has only one showroom in Kerala at present, which is located at Hotel Mascot here. It is directly managing this showroom. Mr. Vijayan said the exclusive franchisee showrooms would be required to satisfy certain requirements with respect to built-up space and display facilities. The KSIC has already received a few applications from Kochi and Kozhikode and these are being processed, he said. A Mysore Silk exhibition organised by the KSIC is currently on at Mascot Hotel. Saris (both plain silk and gold laced), salwar suits, tops, dhoti-vallis, ties and scarfs of exclusive designs are on display at the exhibition. The week-long exhibition will conclude with a function at Tagore Centenary Theatre here on Thursday evening.
