Plea for administrative accountability
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: The Confederation of All-India Traders has demanded a law of “administrative accountability” to bring about a sense of discipline in the working of the bureaucracy in the country.
In a statement, Confederation secretary-general Praveen Khandelwal said the law would be instrumental in promoting the highest standards of good governance in India.
“We plan to launch a nationwide campaign in support of our demand and will also form a coalition with other civic, social and consumer organisations to raise our voice in a forceful manner,” he added.
Direct bearing
While emphasising the need for administrative accountability, Mr. Khandelwal said: “In a democratic set-up, the administration is obliged to inform the public about its past and future actions that have a direct bearing on the citizens. In India, the bureaucracy is unaccountable that has led to corruption and an opaque system of functioning. The sealing issue is one such scenario wherein the common man has been made a scapegoat of the government agencies failing to discharge their obligations in a suitable manner.”
