For Bhajan, Chautala family came first: Hooda

‘Both did nothing for Haryana’; Mandi Adampur by-election on Thursday

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda wound up his formal election campaign in the prestigious Mandi Adampur constituency which faces a by-election this Thursday by launching a frontal attack on his predecessors -- Bhajan Lal and Om Parkash Chautala -- and publicly asserting that while the former symbolised “corruption” the latter was synonymous with “loot”.

Ironically, the by-election was necessitated after Mr. Bhajan Lal, who has never lost an election from Adampur in the last 40 years, joined the newly-floated Haryana Janhit Congress and was subsequently disqualified from the Vidhan Sabha.

Mr. Bhajan Lal is seeking re-election and is pitted mainly against Ranjit Singh of the Congress and Sampat Singh of the Indian National Lok Dal.

Seeking votes for Mr. Ranjit Singh, the Chief Minister charged that both his predecessors always worked in tandem to “safeguard the interests of their family members only”.

Mr. Hooda further alleged that Mr. Bhajan Lal, who had served as president of the Haryana unit of the Congress in the recent past, had “never tried to ensure the victory of Congress candidates”.

He further alleged that although Mr. Bhajan Lal remained Chief Minister of Haryana for 12 years, he did nothing for the development of Haryana, especially his own constituency of Adampur.

Integral development

Therefore, the people should now vote for integral development by electing Mr. Ranjit Singh, he added.

He also accused Mr. Chautala of not taking any interest in the development of the State during his six-year rule in the State.

Mr. Hooda recalled the achievements of his regime during the last three years and specifically mentioned that the State Government had waived off arrears of electricity bills worth Rs.1,600 crore due from the farm sector and implemented a scheme to waive interest on cooperative loans amounting to Rs.830 crore.

The Congress, he asserted, would win all the three by-elections on Thursday in Adampur, Gohana and Indri.
