BANGALORE: Some things are still hallowed in cricket, such as the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanac. In a ceremony held at ITC Windsor Sheraton, Zaheer Khan, one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year, was awarded a leather-bound copy of the 145th edition by Rahul Dravid on Monday. Wisden honoured Zaheer with the award based on his performances during India’s tour of England last year. Sambit Bal, Editor of Cricinfo, a website dedicated to cricket, said, “The Wisden Almanac is a virtual Bible for cricket lovers. I have worked with the Wisden group and was honoured with the complete and unqualified freedom provided by them. This award is important not for money or other frills, but just the honour.” Rahul Dravid, former India captain, said, “It is my pleasure to present this book to Zaheer. It is a well-deserved honour. The manner in which he led the attack was instrumental in securing our victory in the England series. He has the leadership skills and the ability to crack open games. Although he has been hit by injury, he has managed to win accolades for his bowling.” Zaheer Khan, thanking Wisden, said, “I had a very good season although I did not participate in the Australia series. I have recovered now and am fit to play international cricket.”
