Woman killed

A woman pillion-rider, S. Ilami (30) of Velichanatham, was crushed to death when she came under the rear wheel of a State-run bus on the Madurai-Melur road on Monday. The police said that Sonaimuthu, husband of the deceased, was forced to take his motorbike down the tar-topped highway after the speeding bus overtook the vehicle too closely. The rider lost control of the bike and the woman fell on her back. She was killed on the spot. The rider escaped with minor injuries, the police said.
