KOCHI: District Collector M. Beena on Monday cancelled the pistol licence of Himaval Maheshwara Bhadrananda who created high drama on Saturday by threatening to shoot himself at the Aluva Circle Inspector’s office. The order was issued based on the recommendation of the City Police Commissioner. Ms. Beena also submitted a report to the government describing the sequence of events that led to the grant of licence to Bhadrananda and her decision to order its cancellation. SuspendedPTI adds from Thiruvanandapuram: The State government on Monday suspended two police officers for their ‘failure’ to professionally handle attempts by Bhadrananda to shoot himself at a police station at Aluva on May 17. Circle Inspector Babu Kumar and Sub Inspector N.K. Muraleedharan were placed under suspension by Inspector-General of Police (South) A. Hemachandran for their “failure to professionally handle the situation” following the dramatic scenes staged by the gun-toting swami at the police station, police sources said. The decision to take action against the officers was taken at a high-level meeting convened by DGP Raman Sreevastava.
