Held for selling obscene images
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: Two persons were arrested on Monday on charges of selling obscene images copied in mobile phone memory cards.
Following complaints from a few pockets in and around North Beach area, Commissioner of Police G.Nanchil Kumaran directed the police to look out for the offenders.
On a tip-off, investigating officers raided a shop on the Second Line Beach. A search revealed that the accused, identified as Basheer (27) and Subramani (25) of Mannadi, claimed to be selling and servicing mobile phones. However, they were clandestinely printing/copying obscene images in memory cards from a computer and sold them for prices ranging from Rs.500 to Rs.2,500.
A team seized a computer, memory cards and mobile phones from the shop. North Beach police registered cases under IT Act and under IPC Sections 292 A (printing/copying grossly indecent matter), 293 (sale of obscene objects to young persons) and produced the accused before a court.
