New Delhi
NEW DELHI: Mayor Arti Mehra has directed all municipal councillors to compile a list of properties in their respective areas that they consider have been wrongfully or erroneously sealed. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi will call on the Lieutenant-Governor with the list and ask him to intervene on the civic body’s behalf for “easing” the de-sealing process. At a meeting of the House on Monday, the Mayor ordered the compilation of a list of wrongfully sealed properties in each ward within three days to help the civic body gain an insight into the number of such properties in existence. “The councillors and the general public can approach the zonal Superintending Engineer with a list of such properties and the requisite documents within three days. We will then bring the list to the Lieutenant-Governor’s notice and ask him to intervene on our behalf,” she added. Ms. Mehra said the de-sealing formalities of wrongfully sealed properties should be allowed at the Municipal Commissioner’s level. “We will demand for the de-sealing action for such properties to take place at the Commissioner’s level. The procedure for de-sealing is as yet very tedious and cumbersome,” she added. Under pressure to ease up on the sealing drive, the members of the civic body also unanimously decided to issue a 48-hour notice before sealing any property. Proposed at the last meeting of the Standing Committee, the resolution was finally passed on Monday with Municipal Commissioner K. S. Mehra directing all Deputy Commissioners to take cognisance of the decision and issue notices before proceeding to seal any establishment in their respective zones. The notice, it is expected, would give residents ample time to reconsider their position and approach the civic body if they think that their unit is being “wrongfully” sealed. Election dutyIt was also decided that teachers in civic body-run schools would not be allowed to serve on election duty. Several members said it was partial on the part of the Delhi Government to bypass the teachers in its schools and exploit those teaching in MCD-run schools despite the consequential losses to students by way of studies.
