Poromboke-dwellers to be evicted

Compensation paid to all 49 families, says Minister

Land to be handed over to PWD before May 20


Thiruvananthapuram: The government has completed all formalities for the eviction of poromboke residents on the Kowdiar-Vazhayila road which is to be developed soon, Minister for Law M. Vijayakumar announced here on Tuesday.

An official press note quoting him said 49 families residing in the area had been provided with a compensation of Rs.25,000 each.

He said a project would be worked out through the Vattiyoorkavu grama panchayat for the rehabilitation of the homeless and landless families.

The Revenue Department had been asked to prepare a list of beneficiaries for the project, the communication said.

The Minister added that the poromboke land would be acquired and handed over to the Public Works Department before May 20.
