Demand to name BIA after Kempe Gowda

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The Bangalore Nirmapaka Kempegowda Kendra Samiti has urged the Government to name the Bengaluru International Airport after Kempe Gowda.

Rally

Samiti general secretary Marimalliah said on Monday that the samiti would support the rally which would be held by the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike on May 21 in support of the proposal to name the airport after Kempe Gowda.

Mr. Marimalliah said that it was appropriate that the international facility for Bangalore be named after the builder of Bangalore which had been already endorsed by a host of intellectuals, writers and senior citizens in a charter presented to the Government.

The samiti itself was a congregation of cultural and Kannada organisations in various private and public sector units, including MICO, ITI, BEL, KMF, BEML, HMT watch factory, KSDL, BHEL, NGEF and MLW.

A charter signed by leaders from various walks of life had been handed over to the Chief Secretary.

Those who have signed included freedom fighter H.S. Doreswami, poet K.S. Nissar Ahmed, writer G. Narayana, and the former Vice-Chancellor Mysore University D. Javare Gowda, journalist Patil Puttappa, the former ministers Harnahalli Ramaswamy, K.H. Ranganath, Roshan Baig and writers G. Venktasubbiah, L.S. Sheshagiri Rao, Tipu Sulthan Horata samiti president Sardar Ahmed Quereshi, Kannada Development Authority L. Siddalingaiah, All India Karnataka Veerashaiva Mahasabha president S.V.
