NEW DELHI: Some flights were delayed at Delhi airport on Monday because of bad weather in the morning coupled with “power failure” at Terminal 1-B. “There was a 15-minute delay because of power failure due to which the conveyor belts could not function,” said an airline official. However, Delhi International Airport Limited refuted the claim. “There was a power breakdown in the morning but the back-up was available and operations were not hampered in any way,” claimed a DIAL official. A SpiceJet spokesperson said two arriving flights were delayed and about 10 departures were affected for 15 to 45 minutes throughout Monday owing to “Air Traffic Control congestion”. Several flights were delayed and a few were diverted over the weekend because of unexpected rain and squall. Bomb hoaxAccording to a SpiceJet official, five arrivals and four departures were delayed because of the weather conditions on Sunday evening and one flight was diverted to Jaipur. There was also a bomb hoax at the airport on Sunday night. “A call was received by the Delhi police at 12-30 p.m. on Sunday. They passed on the information to us. We conducted checks at both the domestic and international terminals. Our dog squad was also pressed into service. But it turned out to be a hoax,” said sources in Central Industrial Security Force in charge of airport security.
