CUDDALORE: Elementary school teachers staged a demonstration in front of the office of the Chief Educational Officer here on Tuesday, alleging irregularities in the counselling process. The counselling for transfer and promotion to the headmaster posts of elementary schools was held on the premises of the CEO office to fill 114 vacancies. However, the members of the Tamil Nadu Elementary School Teachers’ Mandram and the Tamilaga Aarambapalli Aasiriyar Koottani alleged shortcomings in the transfer as well as filling of the posts. T. Shanmugham, district secretary of the Mandram, told The Hindu that the counselling process was not transparent as was claimed by the officials. Some of the vacancies were not at all intimated publicly, thus defeating the very purpose of counselling. For instance, there existed a vacancy at Thotti but instead in the list provided only Sonaganchavadi was mentioned. Reacting to the allegation R.Veerasamy, CEO, said the counselling was being conducted as per rules. The department could not do anything regarding the ‘administrative transfers’ effected by the Directorate of Elementary Education. Otherwise, the Education Department was going ahead with the counselling as per the list provided and giving the promotion on the basis of seniority. Counselling for the middle schools had been completed in which 24 transfers and 33 promotions were made, Mr. Veerasamy added.
