This Day That Age
Sir Jadunath Sarkar, the famous historian, died in Calcutta on May 19 after a brief illness. He was 87. After graduating from the Calcutta Presidency College, he joined the Indian Educational Service. He was Professor of Modern Indian History in the Benares Hindu University and later served as Reader in Indian History in the Patna University. He was also Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University. He was a member of the Indian Historical Records Commission, Honorary Member of Royal Asiatic Society and American Historical Association, and a member of the Royal Historical Society.
