BANGALORE: Zaheer Khan, who was named one of Wisden’s Five Cricketers of the Year 2007, was presented with a leather-bound copy of the Wisden Cricketers Almanack 2008 by Rahul Dravid, his captain on the tour of England last year. At a function here on Monday, Dravid said: “It’s a great privilege and pleasure to be presenting this Alamanack to Zak. It was largely due to Zaheer’s bowling that we did creditably well in England. At the Trentbridge Test, Vaughan and Bell were going great guns and we needed a breakthrough. And Zaheer provided us that and went onto claim three wickets in that spell to pave the way for our victory in that Test and the series. He deserves this honour,” said Dravid. “After (Javagal) Srinath, Zaheer has responded well to the responsibilities thrust upon him to spearhead the Indian attack. If he remains free of injury, he can continue in the same vein for some more years,” said Dravid. Zaheer said, “I am glad to be honoured by Wisden, which is the bible for cricketers and fans alike and I would strive to be free from injuries and carry on the good work for the country.” — Special Correspondent
