‘V’ for victory: BJP president Rajnath Singh flanked by Delhi State unit president Harsh Vardhan and senior party leader V.K. Malhotra with the winners of the Delhi Cantonment Board elections in New Delhi on Tuesday. NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said that by giving a clear majority to the party in the Delhi Cantonment Board elections held over the weekend, the people of the area had clearly indicated that like others they too were not happy with the Congress rule in Delhi and at the Centre. “The Congress has failed in ruling the country and the aspirations of the people have not been fulfilled,” he said addressing the victorious BJP candidates who called on him on along with the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan and local MLA Karan Singh Tanwar besides others. Mr. Rajnath Singh congratulated Pradeep Kadiyan, Sanjeev Nayyar, Lal Chand Mehrauliya, Neena Sharma and Anupama Tripathi on their victory in the Cantonment elections and said the voters had shown that the people did not want the Congress to continue in power. Dr. Vardhan claimed that the BJP won despite a lot of bogus voting by the party’s rivals. Also, a large number of votes polled for the party’s candidates were rejected, he added. The BJP leader said the party had also demanded that electronic voting machines be used for voting but that did not happen as the Congress did not want a fair poll. He claimed that the Congress leaders from the Centre, Delhi and Haryana had openly misused their power and distributed articles to woo the voters. “Yet the Congress lost heavily,” he said, adding that the BJP would similarly rout the Congress in the coming Delhi Assembly and Lok Sabha polls.
