KOLAR: Former Agriculture Minister K. Srinivasa Gowda has demanded that senior officials of the Excise Department should be punished for what he terms as their connivance with bootleggers. Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, Mr. Gowda said that but for the failure of the Excise Intelligence Bureau and Excise Enforcement and Inspection officers, such hooch tragedies would not have taken place. “If the government does not take action against the errant officials, the day may come when people will take the law into their hands and punish the bureaucrats who are playing with the lives of the people,” he said. — Staff Correspondent
