Six killed in road accident

MANGALORE: Six persons of a family were killed and five were injured when a jeep in which they were travelling crashed into a roadside tree at Sirivagilu on the Subramanya-Gundya Road on Tuesday.

The accident took place three kilometres from Gundya. The family was on its way home at Neriya after visiting the temple town of Kukke Subramanya when the accident took place.

Uppinangady police have registered a case. They identified the victims as Suryanarayana Bhat (70), Nemanna Gowda (55), Anni Gowda alias Gangaiah Gowda (60), Naveen (18), Kamala (65) and Nemanna (35).

Rajesh (34), jeep driver, Somanatha (45), Janardhan, Sathish Gowda, and Nemanna Gowda, who suffered grievous injuries, have been admitted to different hospitals in the city.

The jeep was reduced to a mangled piece of metal due to the impact, the police said.
