Creating awareness about AIDS

SHIMOGA: The Abhaya Action Aid Karnataka Projects, Centre for Media Advocacy of Bangalore and Hosakirana Network of People Living with HIVs have been observing International Candlelight Memorial Day and Global Week of Action from May 18 to 23.

A release said that the objective of the Candlelight Memorial Day was to raise awareness about issues related to HIV and AIDS.

It will also initiate collective action by people, non-governmental organisations and networks of people living with HIV and AIDS to voice their demands for quality treatment, care and support.

The release said that it was aimed at advocacy with decision makers to recognise gender dimensions and linkages between hunger, violence and HIV and AIDS, and to enable vulnerable groups to secure their rights to food, dignity and health.

Abhaya Action Aid would give an overview of the HIV Bill which was expected to be tabled in Parliament this year.
