Stepping gingerly: People on Banjara Hills Road protect themselves from the early morning rain on Tuesday.

Hyderabad: Denizens of the twin cities woke up to a picture perfect morning with cool winds and rain that brought much relief from the sweltering heat and high temperatures.

The Secunderabad Cantonment sported a clean look as the showers washed off the dirt from the roads and footpaths. For once, pedestrians were using the walkways at Parade Grounds and the green cover seemed even more dense as the intermittent rain continued till 9 a.m. However, there were cesspools of water in low-lying areas and colonies and some main roads in the city such as the one near Mozamjahi Market. Most of the Hyderabadis were forced to remain indoors till 9 a.m. Officials from the Meteorology Department say the pre-monsoon showers could continue for a day or two. In addition, the department recorded a drastic drop in temperature from 40.5 degree C to 23 degree C at 8.30 a.m. owing to 4.4 mm of rain on Tuesday.

“The rain has come as a boon in summer. The weather turned quite pleasant and the day didn’t seem too hot either,” said M. Swaroopa, a resident of Srinagar Colony.
