Guntur
GUNTUR: The district was witness to a series of fire accidents on Wednesday. An 18-year-old differently-abled girl was charred to death in the accident at Kolakaluru village. The girl, identified as Vanaja, was cleaning the house when her dress came in contact with the lantern. Unfortunately, all her family members had gone out to buy vegetables when the accident took place. A minor fire on the Agricultural Chilli Yard created panic in the morning. In what seemed to be a repeat of the earlier accident, sparks from an electric pole fell on a chilli bag causing a minor fire. Luckily, Sk. Shariff, a farmer from Kesaram village in Karmapudi mandal, doused the fire with the water kept ready at the nearby containers. The Electricity Department switched off power and uprooted the pole and the wires as a precautionary measure. Huts guttedSome 30 thatched huts were gutted at Gunti Anjaneya Vikalangula Colony at Vinukonda. Sparks from a cooking stove lead to the accident. In another accident, eight hay stacks were gutted at Santhanugulapadu. A heap of dried neem seed caught fire on the Nallapadu-Perecharla road.
