Bangalore: Schools in Bangalore have performed well in Class 12, going by the results announced by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Most schools in the city have secured a pass percentage between 97 and 100 per cent. The pass percentage for the whole of Karnataka stands at 95.98, which puts it at the third position in the Chennai region. Chennai region comprises Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, Daman and Diu and Lakshadweep. The percentage, barring repeaters, is 96.57 per cent.

Of the 4,437 students who appeared for the examination from Karnataka, 4,285 have passed. The entire Chennai region has registered an increase of 7 per cent compared to last year, taking the total results to 90.71 per cent. Puducherry has topped the region with 97.75 per cent, while Goa comes second with 96.62 per cent. Tamil Nadu has secured the fourth place with 95.69 per cent.

“Of the 48,249 students who appeared for the exam from the Chennai region, 43,767 have passed. Since CBSE has a system of grading, we do not announce the names of the toppers,” said V. Nagaraju, Regional Officer, CBSE. The entire region comprises 1,510 schools, Mr. Nagaraju said. Bangalore city alone accounts for 97 schools.

He said that students who wished to verify their results may apply within the next 20 days by sending a demand draft for Rs. 100 for each subject. Results for the Chennai region have been declared earlier than the other regions because results of regional boards in the South, including Karnataka, have already been declared. Delhi, Guwahati and Panchkula regions are scheduled to declare the results on May 23.

KV performance

Vijay Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sanghatan, Bangalore Region, said that the average for the Kendriya Vidyalaya schools in Karnataka, Kerala and Goa, which comes under the Bangalore Region, is 97.18 per cent. “There are 47 Kendriya Vidyalayas in the region, of which 39 have up to Class 12. Sixteen schools, of the 39, have secured 100 per cent results,” he said.

Tension and excitement began early on Wednesday morning, as the results were announced at 8 a.m. Students thronged cyber cafes to download their results.
