Farm workers stage demonstration

KARUR: Cadres belonging to Tamil Maanila Vivasaya Thozhilalar Sangam staged a demonstration in Karur and Kulithalai as part of their Statewide agitation to highlight their charter of demands including minimum wages fixation at Rs. 120 for men and women under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Prgramme, and distribution of 30 kg rice to all family card holders.

Sangam district secretary R. Thangavel led the demonstration in front of the Taluk Office here while in Kulithalai Sangam district vice-president M.P. Selvam led the demosntration conducted in front of the Kulithalai Taluk Office.

The charter of demands included implementation of P. Kolappan Commitee recommendations, relaxation of norms for farmers social welfare board benefits for small and micro farmers and distribution of pattas to all farm workers.
