A biker wades through a water-logged road in Gurgaon on Wednesday. Continuous rain disrupted normal life in the city. Chandigarh: Heavy rain lashed several places in Haryana and parts of Punjab since on Tuesday, bringing much needed respite for the people from the scorching heat. Rohtak was the wettest place in Haryana after receiving a heavy downpour at 56.8 mm. Among other places in Haryana to receive heavy rains were Bhiwani (47.8 mm), Karnal (26.4 mm), Hisar (14.5 mm), Nilokheri (22.4 mm), Sonepat (35 mm) and Gurgaon (41 mm). In Punjab, Amritsar witnessed a rain of 5.6 mm. Ludhiana received 22.2 mm of showers, Patiala 47.8 mm, Amloh 29 mm, Phillaur 7 mm, Ropar 4 mm, Nawanshahr 2 mm, Talwandi Sabo 8 mm, Balachaur 2.1 mm, Barnala 2 mm and Garshankar had 1 mm of rain, Meteorological Department said here on Wednesday. Chandigarh is receiving light showers since Tuesday. The maximum and minimum temperatures in the region have witnessed a sharp fall since Monday. Conditions may persistWet weather conditions in the region are likely to persist till Friday, Director of the local Met, Surender Paul said. “The change in weather has been caused by an Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation which lies over Rajasthan adjoining Central Pakistan. South Westerly wind flow from Arabian sea is also giving rise to increased moisture content in the atmosphere which is making the weather system strong over the region,” Mr.Paul said. PTI
